Roulette is one of the most celebrated casino games, in land-based casinos but equally online. Roulette is a game of chance in which each player, seated around a game table, bets on a number, a color or parity of the number he hopes will hit. History of Roulette

There is much speculation about the historical origin of Roulette. Some believe it first appeared in Italy at the start of the seventeenth century, while others suggest it was born in France. Some theorists are convinced, on the other hand, that the game made its appearance in China and was then brought to the European continent by Dominican monks.

What is certain today is that it was a French scientist who conceived the Roulette wheel which we are all familiar with, and which is present in land-based casinos around the world. Constructed in 1720, this experimental machine had as its purpose to determine whether a ball could rotate horizontally along a smooth circular surface. This scientific observation subsequently became a gaming method. It was first used as such by the English under the name "roly-poly".

In the early 1800s, Parisian casinos began to offer modern-type games: Roulette was already a part of them. Europeans who visited Louisiana during the same period introduced the Roulette wheel inside American borders. In 1842, Roulette started to become specialized, thanks to the intervention of the brothers Francois and Louis Blanc, who created the first Roulette wheel with a single zero.

Roulette was immensely popular until the Second World War: the latter were already passionate about dice games and Blackjack, but Roulette was able to make a rivalry of these less recent games. These days, Roulette seems to have lost a little of its attraction, but many enthusiasts persist in making it their game of passion. One will note that the Roulette systems of a single and double zero were developed in France. However, the double zero is specific to American Roulette. Single-zero Roulette, on the other hand, is preferred by European players.

The different types of Roulette wheels

There are distinctions to be made among existing Roulette wheels, which are more numerous than one may think. The so-called French or European wheel has 37 numbers. There is also the English wheel, which is very similar to its French sister but is used in a different way: in fact, it requires a limited number of players and the latter each use chips of a specific color. American wheel is important to distinguish, as it is the most common: the numbers on its cylinder are arranged differently than those on the French and English wheels. Moreover, it includes an additional number called "double zero". Finally, we finish with the Mexican wheel, which is similar to the American wheel but includes another number: the "triple zero".

Rules of the game of Roulette

Before starting a game, the players have to purchase stacks from the cashier of their land-based or online casinos. The rules of Roulette are generally the same whether you play virtually or for real. The stacks are of chips that correspond to a given amount of money. Some chips therefore have a greater value than others. At the time of the game, each player has to place their stack on one or more squares of the table in order to bet on a number. If they win, the croupier, according to the same principle, will distribute their winnings to them in the form of stacks and chips.

The croupier is in some ways the referee of the game: his role is crucial since he is the one who spins the wheel. He collects the losing bets on his own account. He is also responsible for managing the various stages of the game. Besides handling the ball and the wheel, he has to announce the phases of the game in the following manner:
